Maps

It is helpful to visually understand how Mexican Indigenous people are distributed geographically and where the community may need services and programs.

The maps on this page are created and displayed using Google My Maps. You can find more information about using this tool online, such as through instructional videos on Google My Maps or the My Maps Help website from Google.

This map visualizes the sending communities where Mexican Indigenous peoples living in San Luis Obispo County are from. The vast majority of sending communities are in the southwestern Mexican states of Guerrero and Oaxaca. We also identified individual respondents from other nearby states, such as Michoacán.

In the following embedded map, you can explore the pueblos (hometowns) and municipios (cities) that survey participants reported.

In the map, colors are used to indicate which locations are pueblos, municipios, or both:

  • Green icons indicate municipios

  • Yellow icons indicate pueblos

  • Orange icons indicate locations that were named as both municipios and pueblos

This map visualizes the sending communities where survey respondents from Mexican Indigenous communities living in San Luis Obispo County reported problems with their water. This included individuals who reported having a problem with their water's smell, taste, and color. â€‹

In the embedded map, colors are used to represent the relative frequency of water problems reported in the survey:

  • Tracts in red: More than 25% of respondents indicated a problem with their water.

  • Tracts in yellow: 1-25% of respondents indicated a problem with their water.

  • Tracts in blue: 0% of respondents indicated a problem with their water.

  • Tracts in gray: Respondents were present, but there were not enough individuals for comparative analyses (six or fewer).

  • Tracts in white: No respondents in this study reside in these tracts.

You can explore the Census tracts in San Luis Obispo County where respondents indicated problems with their water in the following embedded map. If you click on a specific tract, it will display the proportion of the study sample who indicated any problem with their water, or specific problems related to the color, taste, and smell of the water.
